Welcome to the laziest blog post ever. It is brought to you by a very lazy and unmotivated blogger who has really been slacking this week. She is apologetic. She is going to stop typing in the third person now because she knows that you know that she’s the one writing this.
As the post title indicates, this post is about my 5 favorite viral videos. It’s pretty simple: these are the YouTube videos that, over the years, have given me a lot of laughs.
1. Bed Intruder (2010)
I still quote from this video on a semi-regular basis. If I think something is particularly stupid, I will contribute the following to the conversation, “That is really dumb. For real.” And, of course, “They rapin’ everybody out here!”
This video impacted me so much that I remember when and where I originally saw it. Before the Gregory Brothers “songified” the video, a Pizza Hut coworker showed me the original news story while we were at work. It was called “attempted rape hot mess” or something like that. A few days later, that same guy texted my then boyfriend while we were at my apartment to tell him about the songify. I was — and I don’t think this is an exaggeration — l’ing my ao.
2. “Can’t Hug Every Cat” (2011)
The other “songify” video that I love is — of course — Debbie, the crazy cat lady, and her internet famous cat band! I wasn’t aware at first that the original video was just her doing a character. I thought she was a legit crazy cat lady named Debbie who cried about loving cats. I mean, I love cats enough to where I’m close to that point. I mean — no, I’m not. I mean, STOP LOOKING AT ME.
Anyway, I found the “Can’t Hug Every Cat” song just incredibly catchy. This, too, I find myself quoting and singing on a regular basis. In fact, anytime anyone says “so anyways,” I have the urge to finish the sentence by saying, “I am a cat lover and I love to run!” It’s a compulsion.
3. OMG, Shoes (2007)
What a throwback! I originally saw this video thanks to some internet friends I met when I was in middle school. The first time I saw this, I thought it was frightening. The second time, I found it hilarious. My second impression has stuck through the year. Poor Kelly. She just wants some shoes that don’t suck.
If you like the shoes video, I highly recommend Muffins! Because who doesn’t love some Star Wars muffins? Among… other things.
4. Salad Fingers (2004)
Another video I saw courtesy of a Pizza Hut coworker. I’m still not sure why someone decided to draw Salad Fingers in the first place. Or why he loves rusty spoons so much. This one is eerie, funny, and may or may not haunt your dreams. There are 10 of these videos in all! Sleep well, my friends.
5. Leprechaun in Mobile, Alabama (2006)
Honestly, this is just ridiculous and speaks for itself. “Who all seen the leprechaun say ‘yeah!'”
